Overall Description
The incumbent will support and seek to embody the Mission and Core Values of the school. He or
she will facilitate student achievement of the DIS Student Learner Outcomes, and student learning
of departmental learning standards (U.S. Common Core - AERO for English; U.S. Common Core
for Social Studies). She or he will create a learning environment and design and deliver effective
instruction / learning experiences aligned with the CEL-5D teaching and learning framework.
As DIS is grounded in the Christian faith, the teacher will integrate biblical understandings and
service learning into the curriculum, and seek to provide pastoral care and promote spiritual
growth of all students.
As a professional educator, the teacher will collaborate effectively with colleagues and will
demonstrate a self-directed growth mindset, including engaging in ongoing professional learning.
Specific Role
This teacher will teach a combination of Social Studies and English in grades 5-12 as assigned.
The exact combination will depend on course sign-ups and other hiring within the department.
Desired Qualifications and Experience
Teacher certification in English and/or Social Studies
At least 2 years of teaching experience is preferred
Experience teaching in International schools is preferred
Experience teaching HS Social Studies and / or HS English in an American-Style school, possibly
including experience teaching AP Social Studies or AP English courses would be extremely
desirable.
