Overall Description
DIS is looking for a part-time school counselor. DIS is open to this being a full-time position if it
can be combined with other teaching areas, for example English, Social Studies, Math, Science,
Design Technology, etc. It can also remain a part-time position if this is mutually agreeable.
The incumbent will support and seek to embody the Mission and Core Values of the school.
He or she will facilitate student achievement of the DIS Student Learner Outcomes.
As a counselor, he or she will ensure that counseling and SEL approaches are consistent with a
biblical worldview and are conducive to students’ spiritual development.
If teaching as well as counseling, she or he will facilitate student learning of the relevant
departmental learning standards, and will create a learning environment and design and deliver
effective instruction / learning experiences aligned with the CEL-5D teaching and learning
framework. As DIS is grounded in the Christian faith, the teacher will integrate biblical
understandings and service learning into the curriculum, and seek to provide pastoral care and
promote spiritual growth of all students.
As a professional educator, the teacher will collaborate effectively with colleagues and will
demonstrate a self-directed growth mindset, including engaging in ongoing professional learning.
Specific Role
As a counselor, this teacher will support the well-being of all students (Nursery through High
School).
Modes of support will include (but are not limited to)
- 1:1 school counseling
- Referring students to external professional resources if appropriate
- Group counseling, for example facilitating conflict resolution among peers
- Providing resources to parents to support DIS children’s well-being at home
- Continuing to develop SEL resources and scope and sequence for the school
- Providing SEL workshops whether by homeroom, assembly, or other means.
- Equipping homeroom teachers to provide appropriate SEL support.
- Provide University Advising support to DIS students (Negotiable/Optional)
- Develop University Advising resources for DIS students (Negotiable/Optional)

The teacher will also contribute to co-curricular activities and spiritual life programs such as
chapel.
Desired Qualifications and Experience
Teacher certification in their teaching area or related area
At least 2 years of relevant educational experience is preferred
Experience teaching / counseling in International schools is preferred
